Naija - things dey happen

Its been a while here, many things responsible.
I had even thought this blog would have been closed by my host site - but hiya! its still on.
I looked at the title of my blog again - Interests of a Naija Dude and I thought of the many things currently happening in Motherland(Not Lagbaja’s Centre) Nigeria.

Many things are happening; though I am not a political or state of the nation blogger and not ready to compete with the likes of Solomon Sydelle - but I can still say one or two things.

Currently rocking us is the issue of fuel scarcity - don’t even know the cause and yet nobody is saying anything. Imagine a country where Electric Power is not been released by the power holders and many are depending on diesel/petrol powered generators to generate electricity, only for these fuel to become scarce. - How do we process that?

Yet we say we are rebranding - What brand are we rebranding. Though I appreciate the effort of our national town crier, - Yes We are Good People - Great Nation (suffering and smiling) but I see this as misplaced priority.There is no quality brand on ground, yet we are rebranding - our bad roads, poor electricity, corrupt leaders and co.

A Country where only a State’s election could not be successfully conducted/concluded due to visible “unseen forces”.

May God help us.

What could be more fustrating?

Imagine yourself as a blogger, or probably an internet geek or someone who is always interested in checking up stuffs on the world wide web:

Who doesn’t have a Laptop (P M/Centrino; 1.66Ghz) of his own and have to depend on the PIII 448MHz ‘family desktop’ (as slow as….) to work/blog. Remember you are not the only member of the family and others too have one or two things to check up on the www;

Who doesn’t have a good internet connection, still depends on a dial-up connection which behaves harphazardly, irrationally and a snail is even faster than the ’server’. This is usually the most furstrating aspect;

Who has an erratic power supply and have to wait for Power Holders to release the electricity before the slower than snail computer system could be put to life.

Who creates a blog and in an attempt to start gaining traffic, joins the fastest growing bloggers network - Entrecard, and the network’s automatic widget scanner can’t seems to locate the widget on that blog;

Who can’t seems to organise himself because of the headache he is experiencing from all these fustration.

Please, what could be more fustrating as a Blooger resident here in Nigeria?

OR Perhaps; Its my fault that I cannot get all the ‘minimum’ requirements to work/blog successfully;

OR probably I am not cuuting my coat according to my cloth

WHO AM I TO BLAME?

9ice’s Gongo Aso performed by “Oyinbo”

Its no longer news that 9ice is one of the artist you can consider the rave of the moment right now in Nigeria.

His popular hit track “Gongo Aso” has received international audience, as he performed live on stage at a Charity Show organised in honour of Nelson Mandela in London.

Nicolas Georgakis - a Greek Guy did an acoustic version of the song. It was nice and beautiful. I watched it on a TV show and I found it on youtube. I am also presenting it here.

WAZ UP WITH ENTRECARD?

Imagine the ’stress’ of a setting up a blog and trying hard to maintain it. All in a bid to let fellow bloggers become aware of my new blog, I joined this growing network of bloggers called Entrecard.

I registered, set up my bloggers ‘Id card’ (users will understand), copied the widget code and placed it on the right hand side of my blog (as you can see under the heading Entrecard). I went back to Entrecard’s site and clicked on check my page for the automatic scanner to scan through and find Entrecard’s widget but alas! The scanner is yet to find the widget on my blog.

I sent a form of complaint to the owners and they replied telling me to do the same thing I have been repeating. I do not know what went wrong.

Has anyone experienced this before, or the automatic scanner cannot have access to my blog OR what?

ENTRECARD come to my aid.

Why you may not make money blogging

Most people (especially fellow naija) now venture into the blogging world basically because they want to earn money from it.

The national dailies is now full of adverts telling people about blogging and how they could make money from it.

From my knowledge and little experience in blogging journey, you do not set up a blog with the primary aim of making money. Setting up a blog with the primary aim of making money from it might not turn out to be. Many who have dabbled into this in the past…..have failed. How do you identify this category of people - they fill their blog with ads right from the start with no quality post.

I am not saying you cannot make money from your blog, its very possible, but that should not be your aim from the very beginning.

In starting up a blog, identify your interest, that is, your passion - what you always enjoy doing and not really want to get paid for it.

Also you have to create a niche market for yourself, you might carry out an online research on what people are looking for on that subject which you are good on.

Then, write quality content, what will interest people, content that will make people always come back to your site and leave comments.

Traffic is another major issue - you have to find ways of getting massive traffic to you blog - there are a whole lot of ways of doing things (I’ll write more about this in subsequent post).

When you might have gained people’s/reader’s trust, there and then, the ads may start rolling, that is when your readers might have gain your confidence.

Blogging is not just what those adverts say, its more than that but not difficult to attain.

I will try as much as possible to expantiate on the points listed above, I squeezed out time to do this because I have an exam at hand (please wish me goodluck).

Till then……..keep blogging.

I’ll appreciate your comment (from pro and upcoming alike).
